Session Description

The primary goal of this session is to provide participants with opportunities to explore the use of freely available interactive web tools in language lessons. Focusing on their teaching and learning situations, participants will consider how to effectively integrate the use of these tools into powerful lesson plans. During the course, participants will create their own blogs and web 2.0 instructional items, participate in asynchronous and live discussions, complete topic-specific readings, and develop a lesson plan applying web tools to a relevant teaching/learning context. Participants will be members of a friendly group of fellow professionals who will support their investigations.

Session Goals

  • To develop skills in the analysis and application of web 2.0 tools in interactive lessons.
  • To design lesson plans incorporating web 2.0 tools that achieve intended learning outcomes.

Objectives

In this session, you will:

  • Assess the applicability of certain tools to a variety of teaching and learning contexts;
  • Create instructional items using the following tools: Blogger, Voicethread, Chinswing, Slideshare, Bubbleshare, Devolver, and others;
  • Present a lesson plan with clearly defined learning outcomes using a tool/tools considered in the session;
  • Find fellow professionals with whom you can continue to explore and learn.

Evaluation

You are encouraged to reflect on how you are engaging with the content. You may complete the checklist of learning outcome achievement if you wish.

Where possible, we would like you to take on the role of peer-evaluator. As a collective of teaching professionals, we have many different and valuable insights to share. Work will not be 'corrected' by the session facilitators. It will be discussed in writing by your peers, who include the facilitators.

Technical Support

Please address any questions that you may have to the Yahoo! Group, Skype, Tapped In and Elluminate sessions. The course facilitators and participants will help answer any issues that you have. There are also a number of tutorials available to help guide you. Let us know if you need further assistance, and if you solve any issues please share them with us. We are learning together.

Working Ahead

Feel free to work at an advanced pace. Let us know if you would like to adopt a supportive role on certain topics or start an investigation of your own.
