Components of a Lesson Plan

Back to Lesson Planning Overview

The key readings for this week also offer lesson plan templates. These templates are interesting to review. The first template comes from the Teachnology lesson planning site: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/lesson_plans/.

The second template comes from the Lesson Plans Page: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/. This template is particularly thorough.

While these lesson plans identify a number of well-accepted considerations for lesson-planning, the formality of producing lesson plans like these can be off-putting. In this session, we have tried to strike a balance between discussing lesson planning ideas and the formality of the lesson planning request. It is good to keep the categories of these detailed lesson plans in mind when considering a lesson, though

To help support your own planning, we developed a streamlined template with your potential work schedules in mind. You are welcome to use this or a template of your own. In order to better allow for peer feedback, please make sure your lesson plans have the following minimum components:

  • Description of the learners/teaching situation
  • Goal of lesson
  • Objectives of lesson
  • Activities
  • Possible problems and solutions to the these problems
  • Further comments/thoughts/extensions

We have also made a number of lesson plans available to view at this location.
